Burinyuy Derrick gets first intermediate lions call up

PWD’s defense kingpin, Burinyuy Derrick Laiver, has been called up to join the intermediate lions of Cameroon for their last training camp prior to the African Nations championship, CHAN that kicks-off in Cameroon as from January 16.

The rock solid defender is one of the 33 players summoned by coach Martin Ndtoungou Mpile, for their training camp that begins as from Monday December 21, at the CAF Excellence center in Mbankomo.

Burinyuy Derrick has quickly established himself as one of the key figures in the PWD squad. He captained the team for a majority of the 2019_2020 campaign, during which he helped the Abakwa Boys clinch their first ever silverware. Derrick featured in 22 of his sides 28 games last season, scoring one goal.

The former National Polytechnic, YOSA and Djiko FC man has great leadership skills, which he transmits on the field of play.

The 26_year_old native of Nso in the North West region, has starred in PWD’s recently outings, both in preseason and the CAF champions league. His solid displays against Kaizer Chiefs home and away, Al Ahli, Futuro Kings and South Sudan, did not go unnoticed.

The enduring and composed defender brings balance to any squad. Buri is difficult to beat in one on one duels, an attribute lacking in many defenders in the land. He has now joined his three other teammates, Haschou Kerrido, Boung Joel Ondoa and Yamkam Basile, who are also part of Martin Ndtoungou Mpile’s squad.

Should he replicate his performances at club level during the upcoming camp and pre_CHAN tournament scheduled in Yaoundé as from January 01, 2021, then it will not be a surprise if he makes the final cut in Martin Ndtoungou Mpile’s final list for the CHAN.
